New Moon Eclipse January 26, 2009

New Moon Eclipse January 26, 2009

2:55 am EST

11:55 pm PST January 25, 2009

6:30 Aquarius Moon and Sun.

The New Moon eclipse taking place now speaks to us with an abundance of air and earth energies. Ideas into Form. Word Made Manifest. There are no planets in fire ~ only the lonely South Node is in Leo fire. Two planets are in water ~ Venus and Uranus, joined and suggesting emotions are sudden and seem to come out of the ethers to land on earth in your backyard where they talk to you.

There are a bundle of planets sitting captured between Mars in his exaltation and Venus in her exaltation. Mars and Venus are cooperating and talking with each other, forming a merger of water with earth, softening, encouraging, and coaxing ~ providing a solid strata for our ideas to take root. Mars and Venus create fertile earth, perfect for the ideas, planets and energies captured between them to take root and sprout like grass seed does. We find Mercury, Juno, Jupiter, Moon, Sun, North Node, Chiron, Neptune and Uranus captured between Mars and Venus ~ representing our ideas or hopes for the eclipse energy as they are being nurtured by the eclipse‘s pulse of energy.

Think about grass seed ~you sprinkle the seeds on brown earth. You go away. The dirt looks at you. You look at the dirt. Then, suddenly, all the grass seeds seem to sprout at the same time! So it is with this eclipse. It is a bundle of cosmic grass seed. You are sowing seeds on this one. Sow wisely. Sow consciously. Sow with solid intention.

Mars and Venus both aspect Saturn high in the chart cast for the east coast of the USA. Mars is only a bit past his trine to Saturn while Venus is past her opposition to the ringed Lord of the heavens. Both Mars and Venus experienced frustration or perhaps a loss when they were activated by their encounter with Saturn over the past few weeks. Now, they are free. Wiser and free. Free and wiser. It is time for them to move towards their dream. Wiser as they connected with the Great Teacher. Free as they learned important lessons.

Think back on all the ghosts and people that Mercury has been bringing your way during his retrograde to remind you how far you‘ve come and how far you may still want to go.

A poem by Mary Oliver seems to say the energy of this eclipse

You do not have to be good

You do not have to walk on your knees

For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.

You only have to let the soft animal of your body

Love what it loves.

What does the soft animal of your body love? Can you move toward that? Today, now, this very minute? That is how you live. Your chart calls your soft animal and speaks to its deepest and most fervent wish. Perhaps it is the most feared wish too.

Lynda Hill’s interpretation of the Sabian symbol for the New Moon eclipse is: A CHILD BORN OUT OF AN EGGSHELL

Commentary: ‘A Child Born Out of An Eggshell’ shows something being ‘Born’ in a way that was probably never expected; it is ‘Born Out Of An Eggshell’. Alchemists saw the ‘Egg’ as the container for both matter and thought. This led to the concept of the Cosmic Egg or World Egg, a cosmic symbol in many traditions. The vault of space came to be seen as an ‘Egg’, and this ‘Egg’ consisted of seven layers, each enfolding the other, showing the seven heavens or spheres. The Chinese believed that the first man sprung from an ‘Egg’. This image is around us in many ways, from invitro-fertilization to human cloning.

Oracle: This Symbol signifies finding innovative ways of doing things, with new directions and new solutions. Find a unique approach that will give you the ability to find unusual and original paths leading to a new emergence. There’s the possibility of unleashing rebellious energy, so make sure that this beginning doesn’t start off with any precocious or “spoilt” attitudes. Many ideas or projects die because they don’t have enough initial capital or support or dedication to last the distance. It is important to provide nourishing environments in order to grow and learn, and nourishment must be provided to last through the course of the development. There can be an uneasy or unsure feeling about the viability of your situation. It may be something out of the ordinary or slightly odd. Don’t let this scare you; try to recognize the potential rewards and see what you can learn from it. This Symbol can also show prejudice or fear of things that are different. There may be the need to be more consciously tolerant towards people or situations no matter their origins or backgrounds. This can also represent the gestation of an idea, process or project that’s outside your direct influence.

Keywords: Transmutation. The birth of a new creative original impulse. Incubated ideas coming to fruition. Genetic engineering. Invitro fertilization. People beyond their time. Mutations. Seeking the unusual. The unexpected birth. The desire to have children. The nurturing egg. Emerging in a unique way. The matrix and the casket. The struggle to break free. Genetic engineering. Indigo children. Children that seem unrelated to their parents. Adoption.

The Caution: Being different only to follow fashion. Afraid of new ideas. Lack of support. Spoilt and naive attitudes. Rebellion. Uneasiness. Prejudice and racial stereotypes. Refusing to believe even what the eyes can see.

In the beginning, all the universe was non-being. It became being. It grew and formed an egg, which remained unbroken for a year. Then it broke open. Of the two halves of the shell, one was of silver and the other of gold. The Upanishads

First there was the Great Cosmic Egg. Inside the egg was chaos. Floating in the chaos was P’an Ku, the undeveloped divine embryo. Huai-nan Tzu

The creator, Awonawilona, thought himself into being. Zuni Indian Saying

Ex ovo omnia.’ Everything from an egg. William Harvey

Man’s main task in life is to give birth to himself, to become what he potentially is. Erich Fromm

We are all cells in the same body of humanity. Peace Pilgrim

The shell must break before the bird can fly. Lord Alfred Tennyson

Do not compute the totality of your poultry population until all the manifestations of incubation have been entirely completed. William Jennings Bryan

In tarot, the World card, is often signified as an egg or oruborus. The World card signifies the completion of a journey as well as the beginning of a new one. Saturn rules the World card to suggest our journey involves discipline, responsibility, concentration, hard work, vulnerability, and perhaps a bit of fear with the goal being resolution of “old karma“. When a child is growing in the uterus, it travels through the various stages of evolution ~ reptilian, amphibian, mammalian and finally is born a human. The stages of evolution are in each of us and course through our DNA.

As Mary Oliver poem says

You do not have to be good

You do not have to walk on your knees

For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.

You only have to let the soft animal of your body

Love what it loves.

Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.

Meanwhile the world goes on.

Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain

Are moving across the landscapes,

Over the prairies and the deep trees,

The mountains and the rivers.

Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,

Are heading home again.

Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,

The world offers itself to your imagination,

Calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting ~

Over and over, announcing your place

In the family of things.

So dream on this new moon. Create a ritual. Shout out your dreams to the heavens. Follow the soft animal instincts of your body. Love what you love. That is your Saturn. When you do what you love, you are doing your Saturn. When you do what you fear, you are doing your Saturn. What you love and what you fear are why you are here.

Weekly Weather January 26, 2009

Our week starts off with a bang with the New Moon eclipse taking place between the North Node of Destiny and Jupiter the ruler of relations, expansion and dreams. The New Moon asks us to begin to move forward again after a period of review, redoing, revisiting and reconnecting during Mercury’s retrograde journey. Kind of like Marley’s ghost who haunted Scrooge on Christmas Eve, all SORTS of our own ghosts have appeared from our far away, long forgotten or perhaps our more recent pasts. Our ghosts asked us to look at our lives and our choices. What were our choices made, unmade, embraced, postponed or avoided? We are done now with all that. Or we will be done in the weeks ahead ~ we are still in eclipse time until February 9, 2009. THEN is when we will actually be done. Now we are simply looking to see what we see. What did you see when the Moon‘s shadow darkened the Sun‘s light? Something was revealed to you. What was it?

Previous times in our lives echo across time and space, reminding us that life is a circle ~ full of ebbs, flows, round and round, with no seeming beginning or ending. The cycle, the patterns, the stories repeat themselves across our life and across time and space. It is all part of the circle of life and in particular it is all part of the circle of YOUR life. There is a part of it that is very familiar. And there is a part of it that is very old. And there is a part of it that you want to get rid of forever. And there is a part of it that you so dearly love (and truth be told you will always love). And there is a part of it that you are so afraid to release into the ethers and walk away from. And there is a part of it that you know you must leave to find YOUR best life.

Saturn and Uranus are dancing, fighting, challenging and talking trash to each other across the sky and in two houses in your chart that are across from each other. Mercury the ruler of Saturn, right now, is stopping in the heavens in Capricorn, Saturn’s sign. There is a desire, on the part of the heavens, by your own ghosts of Marley, by the people / situations in your life, from the people / situations from your past, by your karma, by your soul, by the planets HIGHLIGHTing in bright PINK magic marker WHAT exactly, you are supposed to be paying attention to AND CHANGING!

Often people sit at my reading table and wish/ hope /pray / cry for someone in their lives to change. The unchanging someone is acting out an unlived part of the wish/ hope /pray /cry person’s own chart. By handing their chart over to the unchanging person, they let the other person do what they will and act out THEIR planets for them. The solution is always the same ~ the wish/ hope/ pray/ cry person has to take back their chart. They have to take back the unlived parts of their life and the parts of their chart which they gave away ~ no matter how hard or difficult that seems. They have to do their own Saturn. We each have to do our own Saturn.

At the end of the week, Mercury stations to go direct. In the middle of the week, the Sun joins with the North Node of destiny. At that point, the universe is going call “time’s up”. You will be asked to go to the center of the spot light and say “Yes, I get it! I am ready!” and provide your best guess of what you’ve been learning or know is true for you. That is it. Get ready. And after that, you have to go LIVE IT!

There are no planets in Fire and only two in Water so the focus is all Air and Earth. Thought, creation, ideas that come into form or be made manifest. Going to be a big week on planet Earth.

Monday, we have the eclipse! Read the New Moon report on this site for more information on how to work with the profound and powerful energy. The planets are clumped together making a powerhouse of energy between both Mars and Venus in their respective exaltations. Essentially, Mars and Venus have managed to “herd” cats so to speak, by corralling all the OTHER planets within 60 degrees of concentrated energy centered around the Sun, Moon, Node of destiny and Jupiter. Be careful what you wish for BUT DO WISH! Or at least focus your intent on what you’d like to create for yourself. Mercury moves into Sextile aspect with Venus and is prepared to carry her wished out into the world once he goes direct at the end of the week. Can you see the pattern emerging from your life?

Tuesday, Mercury joins with Mars, the go get it planet, and tells him what Venus wants. Mercury has to go back a smidge more before he stations to come back over the same route (see giant pink highlighter comment above). Mercury is passing over the same section of sky three times as the rest of the planets move through it. Hey, if he says it enough times it will be true? Or it will finally sink in? Or you get it. Try explaining it to someone ELSE ~ once you start to go through the story, you will talk yourself right into the “ah-ha” moment. Moon joins with Aquarius so that can make today a HIGHLY EMOTIONAL DAY! Especially if it is about community or collective energy where you have to cooperate with a group. Uranus has stressful aspects so things can come flying out of seemingly no where. In fact, this situation has been boiling and stewing for quite a bit now. It just boils OVER the pot lip today. But, fess up, haven’t you been a bit annoyed for a while already?

Wednesday, Emotions continue to boil and bubble as Uranus is working in stressful aspects. Uranus is opposite Saturn so if you have the sense that you want to break free or separate from a relationship, that is probably a good thing to do. At least take a time out. Or go off by yourself and figure out a different approach. Sun joins with the North Node, marking a profound new beginning (and you might meet someone VERY important to you part or purpose. Moon in Pisces is feel quite emotional too, having been rocked by the events of the past few days.

Thursday, Sun aspects the North Node by declination, making what you must do EVEN MORE APPARENT. Note your dreams upon awakening, Mercury is slowed to a virtual standstill in the sky. Pay attention to messages from the heavens and the world around you. Capricorn or Saturn are attempting to speak to offer you clarity. At least TRY what they say?! The worst that can happen is you have an experience. The best is you change your life. Gotta own your own stuff. So let’s say you married your mother. You picked a partner to work out your mother stuff with. You don’t have to “dump” your partner but you do have to own your own part of the story. Today the universe is going to point out YOUR part of the deal. And, yes, if you are involved in the situation, you have a “Part” to play. Every relationship is always a dance for two.

Friday Moon in Aries wants to get stuff done. Mars is happy in his exaltation so you can pump things through and out the door. Uranus is encouraging you to break through your previous limits. The imagery is you are tired, your legs hurt but you are almost there, almost to the finish line. Push through. Push yourself. Give yourself permission to expand the concept. Draw correlations between this situation and all the other ones that are having a party or meeting in your house right now. Again, no great need to have a conversation about where the relationship is going. It is going. So show up. Breathe.

Saturn’s day has a power house moon as the Sun asks your body to adjust. This is an overdoing sports injury or out of control kind of energy in physical effort that later requires Tylenol. Mercury is dead stopped in the sky. Pay attention to who you meet today. Pay attention to emails you receive or books you hear about today. Focus on what you’d like to create. The universe is calling you to the center of the stage and about to ask you what you know for sure. Be ready with your answer. What do you want in your life? Be ready with your answer. Where do you want your life to go next? Be ready with your answer. Mercury is listening!

Sunday Mercury stations as Moon has oodles of aspects from her position in late Aries square to the planets in late Capricorn. Expect fireworks even as Mercury is still. You may never know if you won the prize based on your answer. You may find out there is a special gift behind door number three. The universe is about to spin the Wheel of Fortune. The audience is shouting all sorts of answers to you. Which to choose? Why of course ~ you will choose the answer that speaks to you heart. That is the correct answer for YOU to choose. What speaks to your heart? Go and choose that one. That is the one! Pick that answer!

Mundane: My friend Heather pointed out that flight 1549 is a model for all of us about how to work in the months ahead. Crashing as the plane did, everyone simply showed up and did their job. They all did their Saturns. No lives were lost. Think about that image of the floating plane with people standing on her wings, surrounded by tugboats, ferries, and boats of all descriptions in the middle of an icy river. See it as a metaphor for where you are now. Or for where the American economy is now. Yes, it has crashed. Probably not going to fly ever again ~ or at least not for a very long time. However, you and all the other passengers are alive and safe. It was an example of how to just do your Saturn. Show up and do the best you can to do your KARMIC job on Planet earth.

Obama took the oath of office at 12:05 pm, giving him a 16 Taurus ascendant for his term in office. In true Mercury retrograde fashion, the oath was screwed up. Judge Roberts said the oath incorrectly. Obama paused and gave the Judge an opportunity to correct it. The Judge said it wrong a second time, in another way. Then Obama repeated the incorrect first version of the oath. Because the oath was incorrect, the next day, at 7:35 pm in every report I could find, President Obama and Judge Roberts repeated the oath. So now we have THREE charts to follow ~ official times the constitution says noon on January 20, 12:05 pm on the same day is when the oath took place and at 7:35 pm on January 21, the second oath took place in the White House Map room.

Obama has a Moon in Gemini. Often Gemini Moon or Sun people have two ceremonies ~ suiting their dual nature ~ especially the important ceremonies. They get married twice ~ once before a Judge, the next time before family and friends. Or in two places. Some form of double follows the Gemini every where they go! My former Gemini roommate married her beloved in St Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City and the next day they had their wedding reception in Gloucester, Massachusetts where they lived. Some people made both wedding parts, other people made their local wedding part.

So we did miss the 12:08 swearing in time and the Part of Assassination is on the Inauguration’s chart’s Ascendant. Every President has a high assassination risk due to the nature of the job of being the guy at the top of the pyramid. And yes, in the 7:35 pm chart, the Part of Assassination was found at 9 Leo 25 joined to the nodes of destiny at 9 Leo/Aquarius 18 and his Leo Sun at 12 Leo 32. So we keep him in our thoughts, prayers and surround him with a safe and protective light.

Weekly Weather January 19, 2009

The eclipses are coming! The eclipses are coming! This WEEK the tension of the eclipse energy builds and builds! We are releasing things to move toward the New Moon eclipse next week ~ lots of stuff can let go and leave. Plus we have a number of fun, hopeful, hopping about singing and quite cheerful aspects taking place. We also have a whopper of a difficult set of aspects around our desire nature and whether we are going to get what we want. Expect high highs and low lows as the energy has huge swings in style, form and substance. But then, that is an eclipse for you ~ emotions galore as we see something we never saw quite THAT way before!

Eclipses are a special kind of New or Full Moon when the Sun, Moon and Earth all line up like a giant cosmic can-can dance in the sky. They all kick up their energy together, like synchronized legs in a can-can dance, to cause things that are ready to go “pop” to POP! Kick- kick- kick! On a bad day, eclipses are like a giant cosmic white head, pulsing pimple or ripe boil under your skin. They hurt, they sting and are icky. Eclipses make things come to a head ~ juicy, jumping, and oh-it feels so VERY good when the pressure is finally off even if it is a bit messy with the pus, blood and all! This eclipse is a fairly friendly eclipse, as far as eclipses go. It companions and completes the eclipse story begun last August. According to Bernadette Brady in The Eagle and Lark, under the influence of this family of eclipses, individuals may suddenly change the groups with which they are mixing, either through travel or ideas. However, the separation implied by the Venus/ Saturn aspect would produce very positive outcomes. This eclipse talks of deciding to make greater commitments in a relationship. (Anne’s Note: or to end it and move along to a relationship where you can find a greater commitment in!) Either way, the eclipse is gentle and individuals can trust the situations that arise and allow themselves to be led along by their momentum.

The New Moon eclipse takes place on the North Node of destiny and thus the New Moon will propel us towards our fate, future and move us along our path. Companion eclipses that are part of this family of eclipses took place in January /February 1991, 1973, and 1954. See if a similar story was occurring in your life in the early degrees of Aquarius or late degrees of Capricorn back then which matches what is going on in your life now.

As for the rest of the heavens, they are busy, busy, busy all week too. Sun enters a new sign, Aquarius, where it takes a detached look at all it surveys. Not so much gloom and doom as Sun leaves grounded, depressed Capricorn and starts to fly with fixed air Aquarius. Further more, Sun catches up to Jupiter to start an optimistic and expansive year long cycle of hope and joins with Mercury retrograde to redo communications in a different, more open and clear way.

Mercury is still going backwards so ghosts and all sorts of folks, partners, lovers and people from your earlier life will appear. Particularly watch for folks from 1997, 1985, 1973, 1961, 1949, 1937, 1925 and 1913 as Mercury joins the North Node and Jupiter. Mercury’s purpose on this retrograde is to remind you how far you’ve come as well as where you have been. Plus, with Mercury in Aquarius, there is always a bit of shock to the lesson! So, one client ran into a lover he had not been faithful to 12 years ago right after he’d seen a woman who recently broke HIS heart by not being faithful to him. She waved at him as she talked with her new lover. He mused on the nature of faithfulness/ loyalty versus rebellion/ freedom in love and partnership as both the eclipse, Jupiter cycle and Mercury retrograde set off his relationship area and nodes. He is coming to a new understanding about relationships and getting ready to define what love is for him in the next chapter of his life.

Juno enters Aquarius and seeks a new kind of partnership that embraces freedom and the big picture. Expect to be asked to partner with either yourself or someone in an unconventional manner. You can say yes or no or decide not to decide as Mercury is still retrograde. You’ll get asked again in a few weeks, either by them or by someone else if you decide to say no to this particular offer. Think about what you want from your life ~ is this part of the picture?

Venus ruler of our desire, money, financial and love nature has VERY difficult aspects this week. She’s having the “Whopper” of a tough time as she dances with every difficult planet except Pluto. Remember Mercury is STILL retrograde! And Mercury is retrograde in either detached, practical or mean words or cold, analytical or unfeeling words. LISTEN TO THE WORDS and WATCH THE BEHAVIOR!

Decisions made about money, your values or relationships will reverse once Mercury goes direct at the end of the month. So if you were told you are going to be fired on say April 15th, you can expect that probably WON’T happen. Don’t freak out BUT don’t dilly-dally either. Explore your other options to see what appeals to you. Take this as a signal from the universe to see what else is out there for you or to think about what else you’d like to do IF you WERE fired.

Additionally, this is not one of the better weeks to have a “where are we going with our relationship” conversations. Venus is being pounded and feeling rather inadequate and unloved right now. You can inquire about the other person’s “plans” if you ABSOLUTELY must, but don’t freak out if you don’t see a place for yourself in their plans. If someone tries to have one of those kinds of conversations with you, recognize they are hyper sensitive right now. Suggest you move the conversation to mid-February rather than having it right now. Gather your data. Pay attention. Listen. See what you see. Make your plan of when to ask. Just not this week.

If you DO have one of those conversation, the odds are good that the relationship will end or head toward a rather loud exchange that will undoubtedly be unpleasant. Just don’t go there, unless you absolutely have to go there. Gather data instead. Live in the moment. It is an eclipse. Venus is getting pounded by Jupiter, Neptune, Chiron, Saturn and Uranus. You are NOT at your best nor your most secure. So take a seat in the time out chair. Wait until the eclipse energy passes.

On the other hand, if you WANT to get someone out of your life, this is a lovely week to have a “We are open dating, okay?”, “I like you as a friend but this isn’t going any where ~ at least not in this life time.”, “We are friends with benefits and THAT is all we will ever be.”, “I envision myself living, alone, in a trailer with a dog.” If you say THOSE kinds of things, the other person will completely hear you and move on. They don’t want to live in a trailer with you and your dog. They will get it.

REGARDLESS of what happens, the POINT of the whole week ~ and the upcoming eclipse ~ is the separation implied by the Venus/ Saturn aspect would produce very positive outcomes. This eclipse talks of deciding to make greater commitments in a relationship. (Anne‘s Note: or to end it and move along to a relationship where you can find a greater commitment!) Either way, the eclipse is gentle and individuals can trust the situations that arise and allow themselves to be led along by their momentum.

Monday Martin Luther King holiday and an intense, probing Scorpio Moon sets the stage for some rollicking, rolling and very emotional times. Sun moves into Aquarius and joins in a celebration of humanity, connectedness and intensity. Mercury has a few stressful aspects today so expect communication delays, problems, snafus and screw ups. Back up your computer. Moon has a number of positive aspects even if she is intense, intense, intense.

Tuesday, Sun joins with Mercury and speaks to the greater hopes of the mind’s vision and dream. Mercury, even though he is retrograde, is exalted in Aquarius ~ able to see crystal clearly and with a brilliant intensity. Moon is void until 12:30 pm EST so spend the morning in recreation with out any particular aims or goals until 12:30 or so. Take time to focus on your vision and what you’d like as the Moon is unbound from her routine. Moon in Sagittarius after 12:30 pm has highly optimistic and abundant aspects. Push projects out the door and into the sun light. Give birth to your next phase.

Wednesday, Mercury enters Capricorn on his retrograde journey and we return to our serious mental state. Venus has a loss of money or desire as she aspects Neptune ~ a dream is shattered or dies or simply seems to dissolve before our very eyes. This is a difficult day. Mercury joins with Juno and Juno enters Aquarius ~ the wife energy is single or set free. Word of partnerships begun or broken or words not kept. Infidelities can be caught and exposed. Juno was the vengeful wife who caught her husband fooling around. This is NOT a day to have that relationship conversation as there are too many stressful aspects occurring. However, if you catch them fooling around, you may not be able to help yourself.

Thursday Venus accelerates her energy and her desire to release or change. She’s captive between three malefic this week so she’s not feeling the love. Today Venus even argues with her good buddy, Jupiter as he attempts to explain why it is not a big deal. IT IS A BIG DEAL TO VENUS! Expect extreme, extreme emotional volatility. Moon is mad as all get out and kicking butt and taking names so note your dreams upon awakening. Mars has a working aspect with Uranus so take the unexpected detour or course of action that calls to you. Mars can’t do much wrong when he’s exalted in Capricorn so follow his suggestion. Venus joins with Uranus to start a new cycle of creativity and to end something that is finished or done. Bless and release it.

Friday Pluto pushes off of Vesta ~ release, release, release old things around your home and hearth. It is time to let things go and be ready for the next phase. Today is particularly strong emotionally as there are very difficult aspects forming in the sky over the next few days and we are building to the eclipse energy. Do remember to breathe. Folks that are hanging on by a thread leave today. A cycle ends as a new cycle begins.

Saturn’s day has all sorts of emotions, and not particularly NICE emotions either. We are so close to the eclipses. Release, release, release. Venus argues with Saturn and is incredibly frustrated by him and his no, no, no. Sun joins with Jupiter so that is good but can be a bit over doing or over fraught with emotion. Mars works with Saturn as Venus works with Mars so the energy is fast, swirling and not particularly supportive but it IS CLEAR. Moon in Capricorn is exceptionally serious as she aspects all the difficult planets in the heavens. Saturn is getting all sorts of energy from Venus and Mars as well as feeling pressed upon by the Moon. Me, I am going to stay home with the covers over my head today! This from your little Ms “do your Saturn!” astrologer ~ I will be hiding under my covers on a super Saturn kind of day. Or perhaps, if you are braver than me, you can harness the energy (but do know it is a harsh energy you are harnessing!) to accomplish things and move things. It is a law and order kind of day. Focus on the authority energy as that is a place to send the excess severity of the day. Exercise your own authority. Please note that Pluto in Capricorn means there are no more fathers who will take care of us. Or mothers either. We are now our own authorities. Ready or not. Here we go! We are in charge of our own lives. Pluto in Capricorn is here!

Sunday the day before the eclipse, again heightened emotions. Release, release, release. Venus escapes from her captivity ~ she’s broken free from her earlier captive state. If you can, try to get the big picture of the purpose of the week.. Moon occults Jupiter so emotions are particularly high today. Time for a change in strategy as well as time for a new kind of gentleness to take with your approach. We are almost through the darkest part ~ the New Moon Eclipse is tomorrow. There is a sense of the ability to take action on your own behalf that arrives in the leaving hours of the day. Take those actions. You are the hero of your own life. Act heroic!

Mundane: Should be a rocking and rolling week for the Stock market as well as all of humanity with all the difficult Venus aspects. The Hedge funds need to start redeeming their market calls from last quarter to meet client’s withdrawal requirements. The upcoming eclipses are very powerful on the USA (July 4, 1776, 5:10 pm Philadelphia, PA) Neptune in the 9th house of foreign nations, other currencies as well as the South Node in our Second House of money. It also aspects the Federal Reserve’s (December 13, 1913, 6:02 pm, Washington, D.C.) Uranus in the 8th house and Nodes on the MC/IC axis. We can expect major issues with our outstanding debt as held foreign investors, particularly China. And, the Hedge funds will start to unwind under the eclipse energy ~ there is only so much money the Fed can print without hyper inflation. Last chance to cash out your stash before the markets take a more severe tumble in the week ahead.

Barack Obama (August 4, 1961, 7:24 pm, Honolulu, HI) takes the oath of office to be the President of the United States on January 20, 2009. The Constitution says he is supposed to take the oath of office at high noon but all of us should watch for the exact time of the oath of office as minutes matter! The moon will be void of course in Scorpio and out of bounds, suggesting the President will face unusual tests that won’t behave in traditional ways. He is sworn in on the day of Mars in the hour of Saturn ~ Mars is exalted in Capricorn and high in the chart approaching a trine to Saturn suggesting productive and positive accomplishments in foreign matters of Mars (war) and matters supporting children.

The ruler of the proposed inauguration chart at high noon, Venus, is in her sign of exaltation, captive between Uranus and Neptune and opposed by Saturn. Ancient astrologers used a forecasting technique called the Arabic Parts to advise the Kings, Rulers and Merchants who employed them of times that were more auspicious than others to launch projects, start wars or dispatch their ships across the dangerous seas. The Moon in Scorpio is on the Part of Violence in the seventh house suggesting the Public ~ ruled by the Moon, will be violent during Scorpio times of sex, death or taxes ~ under this particular chart. Moon in Scorpio is exactly conjunct Mr. Obama’s Mid-heaven. More important, at high noon, the Ascendant is 14:02 Taurus in the possible Inauguration Chart cast for Washington, D.C. ~ exactly on the Part of Assassination at 14:02 Taurus. Ancient astrologers would advise Mr. Obama to NOT take the oath of office until after 12:08 pm, when the Part of Assassination is not sitting on the Inauguration chart’s Ascendant.

All of my fingers and toes are crossed that the expected enormous crowds will delay the oath of office until after 12:08 pm EST! And, if Mr. Obama takes the oath before 12:08, we all need to send love, light and prayers for his safety and the Secret Service needs to be on high alert when the degree of the Ascendant is activated.

Weekly Weather January 12, 2009

Weekly Weather January 12, 2008

The eclipses are coming! The eclipses are coming! We enter the emotional and energetic build up period to the eclipses over the next two weeks. The eclipses take place during Mercury’s retrograde journey and sandwich part two of Saturn and Neptune’s fight in the heavens. Going to be mighty interesting things taking place on Planet Earth and in our lives!

All week long I’ve been wrestling with how to describe the energy ahead of us. I still don’t know how to put it into words.

There are a number of conversations going on between Mercury, Saturn, Pluto, Sun, Neptune, Uranus, Chiron, Jupiter, the Nodes and the Moon. There are a passel of planets in the early 20s. Jupiter and Pluto are talking to each other. Mercury is stationing on the point of the upcoming New Moon Eclipse and going back to 21 Capricorn the point of last week‘s Full Moon. The Full Moon eclipse takes place at 21 Leo Aquarius. The Full Moon last Saturday was at 21 Cancer Capricorn. The planets are arrayed in a Fifth and Sixth house relationship to Saturn. Mercury and Saturn are in mutual reception. We are earnestly in Pluto in Capricorn territory now ~ no going back.

Again words fail me.

My Pisces Moon has an inchoate sense with no words to support it. It says the next three weeks will be some of the most important weeks of your life and our life on this planet. The next three weeks set the stage for the next 16 years of your life. Whatever happens to you ~ focus on your vision for your life. Focus on the higher, clearer, and cleaner purpose of your soul’s incarnation on earth.

There are three parts of the soul, according to Ibn Ezra in his Book of Nativities and Revolutions written in 1140 to 1160 and translated from manuscripts by Meira Epstein.

The Nefesh or Soul, the lower vegetative part which is shared with animals, and experiences the physical, bodily needs and sensations ~ desire, hunger, pain. The Ruach or Spirit is the middle part, also in the physical body and shared with animals, which causes movement and motion. It is the mind, the capacity for understanding, the character or personality. The Neshamah Elyona or Highest Soul is the part that is connected with God. It is divine and dwells in humans only. It is the part that returns to God after the death of the body. It is above the influence of the stars, unaffected by the worldly, sublunary conditions, and circumstances of the nativity or individual chart.

All three parts of the soul work together and need each other. Nefesh seeks worldly satisfaction in the body. Ruach is the mediator and Neshamah seeks the knowledge of the workings of God. Neshamah travels up to the heavens and brings back wisdom and knowledge.

The next three weeks are when your Neshamah soul will be quite active. Seek to move, with the information you acquire, learn or experience, up to the heavens to bring back wisdom or knowledge about why you incarnated and what you are supposed to do with your life. Step out of your worldly spot, pause your day to day routines and give yourself some time and space to connect with your deeper purpose.

I wish I could offer more detail on HOW to do it. It ties back to all the links between all the planets. The many connections in the heavens are moving all of us toward a different and new place of being in the world. Choose well. The sheltering place is your Neshamah soul ~ the incarnating purpose, plan or idea. Link back for connection. Pay attention to who shows up under this Mercury retrograde ~ the ghosts are returning to connect you to your higher purpose for the next 16 years ahead.

Monday finds the Moon in Leo adding a splash of passion to all we do. Venus connects with the North Node so expect offers or ideas that intrigue even if you aren’t 100% sure what to do with them. Mercury is moving backwards and bringing older situations, times or people from your past back into your life. Look and see if you want them back. You might have changed a bit and they don’t fit so good any more! Or maybe you’ve missed them dearly ~ in that case welcome them back with open arms. One astrologer I know always makes a list of people to connect with while Mercury is retrograde ~ and he contacts them during the three week life review that Mercury takes us all on. Jupiter and Pluto form a crescent moon energy ~ new beginnings you dreamed about when they joined together in December 2007 show their first teeny tiny heads above the ground like that slimmest sliver of a crescent moon! The new cycle back in 2007 was at 28 Sagittarius. Jupiter and Pluto will be dancing this particular dance of theirs until 2020 so no worries if you aren’t sure what it is, exactly, that you see. But do say yes and move a bit more towards your vision. Sun is in a closing sliver to Neptune ~ getting ready to start a new dream in a month or so. Are the two cycles related? Perhaps. Again, say yes. You can always change your mind later.

Tuesday ~ last night you were busy and very active in dream school so make sure to note your dreams upon awakening. It all makes the morning start a bit more slowly than usual. No worries. Moon has an aspect of pushing against power or triangles later in the day. Triangles get their power from two against one. Open up the energy to dilute it ~ carbons on emails, and inviting all to participate, join in, or converse. And make sure there is a witness. Exclusion works only if you let it get to you. Be the bigger person.

Wednesday can go either way. You can be productive as all get out or be thwarted at every turn ~ or a combo of productive and thwarted. Push on through. Double check things as Mercury is retrograde and being his trickster self. Venus joins with Jupiter and Neptune by declination as the two of them help elevate spirits and make things seem a bit lighter, luckier or less depressed. Moon works hard when in Virgo but her ruler is having a bit of a fight with Saturn. If you can back up a bit and take a longer view of it, the situation before you will not seem so difficult. There is a trick to it ~ once you get the trick, you’ll have it. Pallas stations today to go direct so it will feel like your luck some how turned or shifted. Or the strategy shifted. Watch for the clues. Remember we are working with Jupiter in his Fortuna version ~ yes it is just your luck but what kind of luck do you have right now? As the song goes:

They call you lady luck
But there is room for doubt
At times you have a very un-lady-like way
Of running out

You are on this date with me
The pickins have been lush
And yet before the evening is over
You might give me the brush

You might forget your manners
You might refuse to stay
And so the best that I can do is pray

Luck be a lady tonight
Luck be a lady tonight
Luck if you’ve been a lady to begin with
Luck be a lady tonight

Luck let a gentleman see
Just how nice a dame you can be
I know the way you’ve treated other guys you’ve been with
Luck be a lady with me

A lady never leaves her escort
It isn’t fair, it isn’t nice
A lady doesn’t wander all over the room
And blow on some other guys dice

Lets keep this party polite
Never get out of my sight
Stick with me baby, I’m the guy that you came in with
Luck be a lady tonight

A Lady wouldn't flirt with strangers
She'd have a heart, she'd have a soul
A lady wouldn't make little snake eyes at me
When I've got my life on this roll.

Lets keep this party polite
Never get out of my sight
Stick with me baby, I’m the guy that you came in with
Luck be a lady tonight

Thursday has a long void moon making it a wonderful day to relax and kick back, or fiddle around with existing projects and help them move along. Void moon days are days when you can get a lot of the “little” things moved around ~ bills paid, papers filed, things organized, but not so good for the bigger, more important stuff. The Moon rules functions and is essentially “disconnected” and without direction today while she is void. The time is good for subjective, spiritual and non-materialistic concerns ~ but it IS a work day so telling your boss that you are supposed to rest and relax because the Moon is on a holiday probably won’t cut it. Venus is having a bit of a struggle with Juno early in the day suggesting you won’t feel so connected. Then as we move deeper into the day, Moon uses her trine to the Sun to get things out the door. Mercury has a difficult aspect to Saturn as does Moon to Pluto so expect difficult words or information toward the end of the day or in the early evening.

Friday Moon in Libra asks us to partner with the world in a different way than we have been. Venus argued with Ceres last night so the nurturing principle is not matching the desire energy as we go out the door. I used to call these wrong side of the bed days. You know you have to do it but you want to go back to bed and start over. Venus also has an aspect of brilliance with Pluto so watch what happens today, especially as relates to what happened with your triangle story from earlier in the week.

Saturns’ day, there is an echo of 1982-83 when Saturn and Pluto were joined at the last degrees of Libra. The last quarter moon taking place today evokes that energy and that time when we were all struggling with relationships and experiencing a major change in an important relationship. Try to see the psychological issues from back then, particularly your beliefs or understandings around relationships through the eyes you had back then, as compared to the different eyes or from a different slant that you now possess 26 years later. It is almost a Saturn cycle later ~ you’ve evolved! Can you see how your beliefs have changed? Mercury will point out a pattern for you if you care to look.

Sunday is a very active day. Scorpio moon adds a level of profound emotional intensity to the energy swirling around. Mercury joins with Jupiter to connect us with people and have us link up in all kinds of relationships. You will probably hear from or connect with all sorts of folks today ~ or perhaps become inspired to connect with them. Venus and the Sun both connect with each other and the nodes suggesting people who you meet today will be a large part of your life for a long time. It is a day to be inspired by as we link up with the creative energy of partnership, coming to realize our purpose, our relationships and our desires. Often we have trouble asking for things for ourselves while we may be great at doing it for other people. Ask for yourself today. Ask for what you deeply desire and want.

Mundane: The closing quarter Moon and the evocativeness of the energy of the week will bring us back in time to an earlier place. We are, hopefully, FINALLY getting rid of the remainder of the Reagan bunch that has been in power since forever. Back in 82/83 we were learning about Iran Contra as Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and the rest of the gang that staffed the Reagan White House got caught trading arms to fund an illegal CIA war in Central America. They learned their lessons from 1982/83 well ~ no paper trails, obfuscate, lie, cheat, and steal to get the job done. This is their last week in power before they, hopefully, go riding off into the sunset on their donkey FOREVER! If Obama manages to get sworn in next week without one last gasp or grasp for power from this gang, we will have made it through a very, very dark period of time in American history. Amen.

Full Moon January 10, 2009

Full Moon January 10, 2009

10:27 pm EST

7:27 pm PST

21:02 Cancer Moon and Capricorn Sun

Think back to the Summer of 2007. On July 14, 2007, the New Moon was at the same degree, 21:41, as the Full Moon is today. That New Moon was the seed for the Full Moon we have today. There is a 30 day lunation cycle as well as a 2 ½ year longer cycle that ties into the Metonic cycle. We are 18 months into the longer cycle, at the hoped for culmination point of projects begun in the Summer of 2007.

Back in July 2007, I wrote: You are not going to be able to pass this new moon by! It is taking place in the Cancer house of your chart at 21:41 degrees of Cancer ~ starting a new story in that house and section of your life. It is right next to the world axis, suggesting a shiny, brand new beginning that you will be known for or will move out into the world in a public way. It is a great new moon to start or create a new physical or structural life style, diet, quit smoking, get more exercise or organize your life to create space for what you are looking to grow over Saturn’s journey through Virgo.

The Moon is out of bounds at 25:20 Cancer ~ adding a bit of a wild card to the lunation. Think of the out of bounds moon as a loving fairy godmother appearing and blessing your pumpkin and turning it into a coach, your house mice converted to coach men, as your rags are turned to a beautiful, sparkling gown with fancy glass slippers. You are, deep inside, Cinderella, right now. It is time for you to go to the ball. The energy of the moon has that feel to it.

Now, the CAUTION with the out of bounds energy combined with the Mars square to Chiron is the following conversation taking place: Cinderella says to her fairy godmother, “Oh the hell with all that stuff and your silly magic wand. Nice trick! But right AFTER the fabbbb-u- lous ball at the castle, I am going to be back here, cleaning out the cinders in this stupid fireplace and washing my stepsisters’ dirty laundry. All that pumpkin and sparkly dress is doing is making me hope for something that will never happen! And besides, even YOU told me I have to be home by midnight as that is when the magic stops! That means I don‘t even get to go to the after parties at the cool clubs! You know what? I am SICK AND TIRED of being disillusioned by my dreams and hopes and fancies NEVER COMING TRUE! I think I will stay home, right here, by myself, cry a bit and have a cup of tea made with my used tea bag as a lump of coal smokes in the fireplace!”

We like the story of Cinderella. It offers us a rescue fantasy from our lives and teaches us to believe in the future or dreams. Of course, we never do learn that the Prince picks his nose and farts. The fantasy ends with happily ever after. Now, we are each grown up enough to know that happily ever after is a fairy tale too! But what of the original story? What if Cinderella DIDN’T go to the ball? What happens then? The whole story rests on her taking that ride in the pumpkin coach and dancing with the prince at his ball and losing her glass slipper as she bolts out at the stroke of midnight to avoid turning back into a rag clothed Cinderella before all the people at the ball!

The purpose of the long, dry, Saturn opposition to Neptune was to disillusion you about the possibility of a fairy god mother appearing in your life and waving her magic wand to create a bugle beaded dress, and pumpkin coach to rescue you from your life. I know. You are disillusioned. The purpose of the Mars square to Chiron is to say “Nope, not in this life, baby, you are in charge of the cinders and that is all you can hope for!” Well, let’s revisit the choices and voices. Yes, they ARE options. You CAN give up and sit by the fire with weak tea, cold and shivering, crying as you sweep out the ashes and cinders every morning. There is no such thing as fairy godmothers in your life! Right now, it might feel like you are Sisyphus pushing your rock endlessly up the hill.

Want to know a secret? You are your own fairy god mother baby!

You’ve been sewing your dress, in secret, for the past few months after you’ve finished your chores, late at night. You‘ve been working on it when you are so tired your back aches and your most fervent dream is to go to bed. The light from the fire place is bad so it is hard to see to thread the needle for your bead work. Why did you decide to put so many stupid beads on the darn dress any way? Hand beading is such a pain! And that pumpkin coach with the mice driving it? Please! We are talking mass transit for you! A metro card and a city bus are in your future! That is how you are getting to the ball. Or perhaps walk? Well, you COULD spring for a taxi or maybe rent a limo but they are darned expensive and the driver is from a foreign country and you‘ll be stuck in a limo line FOR EVER waiting your chance to walk down the red carpet!

Not to worry. Pick up your needle and sew a few more bugle beads around your neck. Your life awaits you! It is time to get dressed for the Prince’s ball. Do what you love and you are living your best life! Start walking toward your next life and the Prince’s ball. Save the limo money for an omelet at the all night diner after the ball and the after parties. Besides, if you start NOW to walk toward your next life, everyone can see your beautiful, sparkly, beaded gown as you move while the sun sets in the west and Saturn leaves Leo. All the townspeople waiting by the red carpet, watching the people go into the ball, will be thrilled to see you up close and personal. Who knows, one or two of the townspeople might even order a dress from you for next year’s ball …. (remember to bring your dressmaking business cards!) Then, if it doesn’t work out with the prince, you can start your own dressmaking business, buy an apartment with a gas fireplace to stop cleaning out the cinders and hire someone to do the bugle beading...

So, here we are, 18 months later! You know what happened in your life since then. Where are you? What have you accomplished in reaching your dreams? What happened with the Prince? Was he as dreamy as he seemed back then or did you end up dumping him? Did you get very, very skilled at being a Fairy Godmother for your dreams? How is that custom dress business doing? Did you end up buying a place with a gas fireplace or hiring someone to do the bugle beading?

We are at the turning point of the projects begun under the New Moon in July 2007. Think of how much has happened in your life since then. And acknowledge all the things you’ve figured out or gotten better at.

Full Moons often repeat the energies of the New Moon to push us further along.

The Full Moon chart features a Yod or Finger of God with Neptune and Chiron at the Apex and receiving adjusting energy from the Moon and Saturn’s sextile. Finger of God’s can act as either a giant flick in our butt to get us moving in the right direction OR a point out, like a signal, and suggest we move in a new direction. Both the Sun and Moon are on the Parts of Co-incidence ~ watch for those “wow” kinds of moments under the Full Moon.

For example, a client of mine was in the midst of a fairly yucky and quite difficult divorce back in July 2007. Now, under the gentle light of the Full Moon, she heard from her first profound and meaningful love from 20 years ago. He found her on the internet. She’d spent time over the holidays on a beach thinking about the nature of love and what kind of partner she wanted in her future.

Another person began writing a book on the New Moon and just found an agent to help get it published. A third client was in the midst of serious marital tensions. She left. He finally went for counseling. They struggled and wrestled with the problems. She decided to return to him on the New Moon. They are expecting a baby at any moment and moved into their new house right before Christmas.

While your story may not be as dramatic as those above, there is a story in your chart, reaching a peak now. It still has more exciting parts to come! And, if you’ve been having trouble giving yourself permission to follow your dream and are at a turning point, now is a terrific moment to “recommit” to your dream.

The Full Moon has a Mystic Rectangle indicating things that take place under her light will have a more profound purpose for our lives than the run of the mill Full Moon. A karmic purpose ~ either visioning or beginning a new phase. Our charts offer us numerous, repeat NUMEROUS, opportunities to “get it right” so to speak. Like a baseball game, it ain’t over until it is over. It can be the bottom of the inning with a couple of outs and you can still win the game ~ witness the Game 6 Mets win in the 1986 World Series! So don’t give up and get in there! Play your heart out!

One of the most beautiful things about astrology is the emphasis we see in a chart about any person’s path and purpose. If something is “supposed” to happen or is part of our path, we will see the natal chart reflecting it at least three but often more, times. When I teach astrology, it is fun to watch students find the many and varied “repetitions” in any given chart. Aside from building confidence (no, you won’t miss the important stuff), it makes one a bit stunned by the simplicity and beauty of how many opportunities we are given to “get it”.

If you still aren’t clear about where you are supposed to be your own Fairy Godmother, don’t worry. The Full Moon takes place as Mercury stations on the North Node of destiny. Mercury is going to go retrograde and move back to station on 21:47 Capricorn (yes you read that right ~ the degree of the Sun on this Full Moon). Saturn stationed at 21:46 Virgo on December 31, 2008, trine to the Full Moon. Saturn and Uranus are going to oppose each other in Virgo/ Pisces on February 5, at 20:39. And the lunar eclipse next month is at 21 Leo/ Aquarius. Last month’s Full Moon was at 21 Gemini/ Sagittarius.

Essentially, the heavens are shouting at you! So pay attention to what you figure out, see, find, or observe. Notice what you notice. Especially see what happens over the next few weeks as Mercury turns up all sorts of folks from your past during this retrograde. The retrograde is nestled in the middle of two eclipses. Watch who shows up in your life or the messages you receive. Big stuff coming in!

Pluto in Capricorn wants you doing your Saturn. Time to get on your path in earnest. You are your own Fairy Godmother!

Lynda Hill’s interpretation of the Sabian Image for the Cancer Moon is A YOUNG WOMAN AWAITING A SAILBOAT.

Commentary: ‘A Young Woman’ is seen ‘Awaiting a Sailboat’. She has hopes in mind that something special will either arrive or happen in some way. There is a strong sense that some ideal she’s hoping for will come to her if she waits long enough. Often there is delight in looking forward to a particular pleasure or event. However, sometimes it feels like one’s “ship” will never come in. The ‘Young Woman’ can be left waiting for a long time. She may miss other aspects of her life by not paying attention to what’s readily available. Viewed positively, the ‘Waiting’ can lead to a pleasurable anticipation of what, or who, may arrive. Sometimes we actually vicariously enjoy it in advance, dreaming of what rewards may come.

Oracle: You may need to be patient, and confident that what you want will come to you. However, there is a warning not to become dependent on an unreliable outcome. Also, if you are constantly looking out, then you are probably not spending enough time looking back or inwardly at the things you already possess or have ready access to. People dream of the perfect partner suddenly appearing, or the big win in the lottery that will rescue them from their problems or dull lives. The outcome may prove to be less than imagined. Often, the more we look forward to something, the less we enjoy it when it actually arrives. Bearing that in mind, we should draw to ourselves the things we truly desire through positive affirmations and a determined focus on a desired outcome. Clean the barnacles off your ship – the remnants of the past – so that new life, love and spirit can come to you. It is the level of confidence that supports our ‘Waiting’ that can determine the success of the outcome. When the tide changes, your “ship” may very well come in. Make sure you are rowing your own boat and steering your own course.

Keywords: Waiting for one’s ship to come in. Escapist fantasies that rob everyday life. Travel and the longing for escape. Living in the future vs. being in the here and now. Nervous anticipation. Leaving things to chance. Believing that things will come eventually. Opportunism. Rocking someone’s boat. Expectant waiting. Constant looking to the horizon. Boats. Tides. Creating a safe harbor.

The Caution: The bubble bursting. Waiting for Mr. or Ms “perfect”. Ignoring what’s readily available. Longing for that which may never come. Missing opportunities. Always looking over one’s shoulder, seeking better things. Boredom with one’s life. Escapism. Possibilities that are never “good enough”. Pining for the unattainable. Not taking life on. Delusions of grandeur. Things always being better tomorrow.

We love to expect, and when expectation is either disappointed or gratified, we want to be again expecting. Samuel Johnson

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes. Marcel Proust

You can’t cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water. Don’t let yourself indulge in vain wishes. Rabindranath Tagore

How much of human life is lost in waiting. Ralph Waldo Emerson

If your ship doesn’t come in, swim out to it! Jonathan Winters

Fortune brings in some boats that are not steered. William Shakespeare

Every ship is a romantic object, except that which we sail in. Ralph Waldo Emerson

Everything you want is out there waiting for you to ask. Everything you want also wants you. But you have to take action to get it. Jack Canfield

Lynda Hill’s interpretation of the Sabian Image for the Capricorn Sun is A GENERAL ACCEPTING DEFEAT GRACEFULLY.

Commentary: ‘A General’ is seen ‘Accepting Defeat Gracefully’. He has to acknowledge a ‘Defeat’ of some kind and respond without losing face. Being a ‘General’, this person is obviously often a “winner”, respected for being in charge and in command. Now there’s the need for acknowledgment of a loss or a ‘Defeat’, or a backing down of some kind.

Oracle: There’s an old saying: Winning or losing doesn’t matter as much as how you play the game. Through the acceptance of ‘Defeat’, one can often discover important and valuable life lessons. Merely making excuses can lead to the same mistakes being made again and again, when there is no longer any point in pushing matters. At a time of “surrender”, it is the way a situation is handled that will be remembered the most. It is how ‘Gracefully’ you handle ‘Defeat’ that will be the measure of your inner worth both to yourself and others. Sometimes it is wise to concede when the “victory” or the “prize” is more valuable for your opponent than oneself. Admitting that one has lost or is prepared to give up can free you up to get on with your life and more rewarding adventures. Learning from ‘Defeat’ can bring strength of character. On a deeper level, ‘Defeat’ shows us that we are neither perfect, nor indestructible. Is the objective, battle or conflict really worth winning or pursuing? Going for revenge, greed or glory can often prove to end up badly as things can turn sour. Sometimes pushing your agenda can hurt your cause and it’s better to back off and hold your tongue. Struggling to have your point made or accepted may be self-defeating. This can happen in simple everyday situations such as conversation with others not understanding what you’re saying or doing. Realizing that you’re not going to change others can lead to being able to ‘Accept’ things in a better light.

Keywords: True inner worth. Being a “good loser”. Learning that every minor skirmish in life is not a major ‘Defeat’. Being prepared to start again. Sacrificing things for the benefit of others. Nobility of character. Letting go of the “charge” around anger. Surrendering.

The Caution: Being a “bad loser”. Feeling everything is going to come out badly. Reliance on self-limitations. Seeing the negative in everything. Losing what’s been worked for. Making excuses to get out of tight situations. Betrayal and loss. Loss of support. Surrendering too early. Giving up on life.

The greatness of a man’s power is the measure of his surrender. William Booth

Defeat is a state of mind. No one is ever defeated until defeat has been accepted as a reality. Bruce Lee

A proud heart can survive a general failure because such a failure does not prick its pride. Chinese Proverb

An unjust peace is better than a just war. Cicero

Failure is nature’s plan to prepare you for great responsibilities. Napoleon

Always imitate the behavior of winners when you lose. Anon

The surrender of life is nothing to sinking down into acknowledgment of inferiority. John C. Calhoun

You don’t always win your battles, but it’s good to know you fought. Marjorie Holmes

But man is not made for defeat. A man can be destroyed but not defeated. Ernest Hemingway

Part of the happiness of life consists not in fighting battles, but in avoiding them. A masterly retreat is in itself a victory. Norman Vincent Peale

Weekly Weather January 5, 2009

Weekly Weather January 5, 2009

We start off with January in earnest this week. January, the beginning of the calendar year, was named in honor of Janus, the Roman god of doors and of beginnings. All doors, beginnings and gates are sacred to Janus. Moving back into our regular lives after the holiday season offers us an opportunity to look at our world through fresh eyes. We invoke the energy of Janus as all the holiday decorations come down and the world seems a bit less bright. Our homes, stores and neighborhoods are no longer lit by twinkling and sparkling lights. We look at our bare walls and newly empty spaces. We make our New Year’s resolutions. We start anew ~ another year, another beginning, the next adventure in our lives. 2009 begins!

Janus presided over the sowing ~ that is the beginning ~ of the crops and over the START of virtually every other significant endeavor. Janus has two faces that face in opposite directions as do doors ~ forward and back, inside and outside, the entrance and the exit. Janus was simultaneously able to see where he was going and where he came from.

Our week offers us an extra new beginning besides the one Janus brings us at the start of a new year. Jupiter moves into Aquarius where he will spend the next year waking up, expanding and growing the world’s house of hopes, wishes, dreams, groups, associations, tribes, community, love received and talks to us about our greater purpose in our chosen and given communities. Jupiter will be traveling through our individual chart’s Aquarian house, expanding, growing and extending it, opening our Aquarius area of life up to the world and inviting in all sorts of possibilities.

According to Myth Astrology by Raven Kaldera, the energy of Jupiter in Aquarius is deeply tied to the goddess Fortuna. Fortuna was often shown whirling in mid-air or spinning in the center of her great Wheel of Fortune. She ruled the weather and the winds of change. Capricious and inconstant, Fortuna could bring you up with one hand and cast you down with the other. Sailors prayed to Fortuna for good weather, safe winds, asking to avoid storms and return alive as well as to have profitable commerce from their journey over the seas.

Fortuna’s Wheel of Fortune was called at different times either Bona Fortuna and Mala Fortuna ~ good or bad. Her Wheel has four men riding on it: a king enthroned at the top, a beggar on the bottom crushed by his life and two people hanging on for dear life on either side ~ either rising or falling in their fortunes. Fortuna likes to mix it up ~ she’s unreliable and full of turning the world upside down with her changes. She particularly likes to toy with folks who have stayed too long in one place or who keep doing only one thing, resisting her calls to change. Luck comes through change. Fortuna rules gambling, brothels and places where luck is said to change suddenly. “Luck if you’ve ever been a lady to begin with, Luck be a lady tonight.”

Your job in the week ahead is to think about your life as a wonderful ride on the Wheel of Fortune ~ full of ups and downs, over and outs, exits and entrances, beginnings and endings. A new cycle begins! Janus is here ~ door is swinging ~ open and closed. Look back. Look forward. Pluto is newly entered into Capricorn while Jupiter enters Aquarius on Monday. Jupiter is in Pluto’s second house of what is of profound Taurean value to Pluto! Jupiter in Aquarius describes Pluto’s considerable talents, skills, resources, money and portable assets. The gamble is shifting, the game is changing, the dice are being shaken and about to be cast. Forward we go!

To help you see your future with Fortuna, we have a lovely Full Moon and Mercury stopping to go retrograde in Aquarius for a few weeks. Mercury is going to take you on a journey, a bit like Scrooge had that Christmas Eve long ago, to see your life over the next few weeks. During Mercury retrogrades, all manner of people from all of your previous Aquarian journeys and adventures will stop by to say hello. The purpose for the visits from your ghosts of times past is to remind you of where you’ve been and what you’ve done. You know that saying “Those who don’t remember the past are doomed to repeat it”? Well, Fortuna, Janus, Pluto and Jupiter are all talking to Mercury. The five of them are going to be sending YOU (and all the people you know) blasts from the past so you see it clearly and DON’T repeat it again. Unless, of course, you WANT to repeat it again. And sometimes we DO want to repeat it again.

Just as we learn to memorize the alphabet or our multiplication tables through repetition, we learn to figure out what went on with our parents and during our childhoods through endless repetition in our adult lives. We repeat the same patterns with our own children, our partners, our friends, our co-workers, our employees or our employers. We repeat the patterns we had in our early lives with our siblings and parents when we were little. We repeat those patterns, over and over, until we figure those patterns out. And sometimes, even after we’ve figured them out, we STILL repeat them. Sometimes we decide “I am not going to be like my mother/ father/ sibling” ~ and try to avoid that repetition. It is STILL a repetition ~ by avoiding HOW they did it, we sow the seeds of a different reality but sow the seeds ~ creating a new beginning, opening a new door, creating a different kind of Fortuna for ourselves ~ a new pattern.

When we begin a New Year, we seek to change our old patterns or repetitions ~ via resolutions. If we do that, resolve to change, we will change ourselves into something different! So, it seems appropriate to talk about Resolutions or Resolves a few days into January as they blend in so beautifully with the themes of the week ahead. From my trusty dictionary:

Res·o·lu·tion: n

1. resolving of something: the process of resolving something , the resolution of a difficulty , settle an argument: to bring a disagreement to an end, change: to change into something else

2. joint formal expression of opinion: a formal expression of the consensus at a meeting, arrived at after discussion and usually as the result of a vote

3. decision: a firm decision to do something

4. determination: firmness of mind or purpose, dispel doubts: to dispel doubts or anxieties

5. electronic engineering reproduction of detail in an image: the level of reproduction of detail offered by a TV or computer screen or a film image

6. solution: an answer to a problem, solve a difficulty: to find a solution to a problem

7. physics chemistry separation into constituent parts: the process or act of separating something such as a chemical compound or a source of light into its constituent parts

8. medicine subsiding: the disappearance or coming to an end of symptom or condition such as fever or inflammation

9. music satisfactory conclusion of a harmonic pattern: the movement from a dissonant to a consonant chord or note

10. music final note in a harmonic progression: the note or chord to which the harmony moves when progressing from dissonance to consonance

11. theater part of a story when conflict is resolved: the point in a dramatic work when the conflict is resolved

12. physics make parts of an image distinct: to make parts of an image distinct, for example, in a microscope or telescope

13. poetry syllable replacement: the substitution of a long syllable for two short ones in the rhythm of a line of poetry

14. mathematics split a vector into directional components: to separate a vector into its directional components

14th century. Directly and via Old French from Latin resolvere , literally “to loosen up,” from solvere (see solve).

Take the time in the week ahead to look at your patterns. As ghosts appear from your past over the next few weeks of Mercury‘s retrograde, revisit the stories and situations that form the earlier patterns in your life. Do you see how the patterns fit together like puzzle pieces? Once you see how the patterns fit, what do you resolve? Call on Fortuna and Janus to help you work with Jupiter, Pluto and Mercury to create new beginnings, new patterns and thus to change your Fortune, your hopes and dreams.

Monday. Moon in Taurus takes place moments after Jupiter enters Aquarius for the next year or so. Taurus is fixed earth ~ our patterns are fixed, for the most part. We call that part “fate” ~ those fixed patterns of ours. The parts we can change ~ well, those we call “free will”. Look at the things you THINK of as FATE ~ can you adjust those FATE parts a bit with your FREE WILL? Some times it takes a change in attitude. Some times the movement happens from a minor shift in understanding ~ an ah ha moment. Other times a behavior change does it such as when you lose 10 pounds because you replace the half and half in your morning coffee with rice milk! Today Mercury is in the mood to point out your patterns and repetitions, known and unknown. Mars has an aspect of brilliance to explosive Uranus ~ I call this the Eureka moment or aspect. The energy can take the form of literal explosions but more often it is that life changing “wow I got it!” kind of vision or seeing energy. Saturn and Mercury are in mutual reception all week so they can change their energy with each other and harness the detached knowingness to see patterns previously not noticed. Look through the door with Janus both ways ~ in and out, forward and back, the entrance and the exit ~ see the beginning from the ending.

Tuesday, Mars joins Uranus by declination so again we have the possibility of explosions, crashes, lightening bolts and sudden bursts of light or illumination. Moon in Taurus seeks stability today as it trines both Sun and Saturn in Earth seeking a grounding and much more solid energy. Mars in Capricorn has an aspect of stress with Neptune. What good is seeing if you don’t like what you see? Well, seeing helps you not do it again. Seeing helps you understand how things work. Seeing helps you ~ it gives you an edge. Once you see how it works, you are able to use what you see to your advantage. Do you remember when you were struggling to figure something out? You struggled and struggled, and then, suddenly it all made sense? That is what today is about. It will make sense.

Wednesday, on his day, Mercury slows to barely moving as he joins with Jupiter by declination ~ notice the pattern, see Fortuna show you how the Wheel spins ~ forward, backward, around and around. Mercury joins with Neptune by declination. Note your dreams upon awaking. All night long, Mercury was talking with Jupiter and Neptune ~ your dreams are telling you important things. Venus in her exalted state of Pisces is arguing with Pallas for presenting too many choices. See how the patterns are all the same? See how the patterns repeat? Patterns are part of life. We grew up in a pattern that was our family. We create that pattern over and over again in our life. Or we create things to go against that pattern. You feel guilty about not doing enough for your child while you moan that your parents are not doing enough for you even as you don‘t do anything for the people you love. It is all one and the same. The pattern, the pattern. Mars and Uranus continue to cause Eureka moments as well as explosions in the world and your life.

Thursday Moon in Gemini shows us the duality. To have light, we need dark. To see, we need contrast ~ the polarity of opposites. The two parts create action. Up needs a down. In wants an out. Yes needs to be able to say No to get to Yes cleanly, clearly and with truth. Today you get it. Mars aspects the node as Sun and Mercury connect by declination with each other and the North Node in Aquarius. The childhood pattern you are working with today is what you needed to get you to where you are now. If you didn’t have that childhood pattern, you wouldn’t be you. If you didn’t have the parents, siblings, experiences and childhood that you had, you wouldn’t be who you are today. They all combined to create the pattern that is your. Your chart describes the pattern that is you like your DNA describes you physical body. The patterns are you!

Use those patterns wisely, with resolve, with resolution, to understand your Fortune, to set your new beginnings with Janus, to help you process the times and experiences of your life. If you understand that your entire life up to now was to create the person you are today, you instinctively know that the next part is and will be created to further support your evolution. No surprises. Fate/ Free will ~ yet another duality. Is there one without the other? Are there Fate and Free Will ~ or are they simply another duality presented to make us THINK we are stuck or unstuck, locked in or free. All different parts of duality. The choice presented. Watch for explosions ~ more eureka moments!

Friday, Mercury gets to his station degree and creeps along so slowly ~ look at the slow motion version of your life. Pluto clears out something around your home or office nest~ do you really need it or want it any more? Are you keeping it for a good reason? And, a good reason can be because you like it. Sun is jumping up and down and pointing out the pattern! The other guy says to you “You are just figuring THAT pattern out NOW?” We figure it out when it is time for us to figure it out. Mars has a gift of brilliance and understands of the NEED for patterns. pat·tern: design:1. a repeated decorative design, for example, on fabric a zigzag pattern; 2. prototype: an original design or model from which exact copies can be made; 3. plan for making something: a plan or model used as a guide for making something; 4. regular form: a regular or repetitive form, order, or arrangement a predictable pattern of behavior; 5. good example: a model that is considered to be worthy of imitation; 6. regular way of doing something: a regular or standard way of loving or behaving the flight patterns of birds; 7. metallurgy model used for making a mold: a wood, plaster, or metal shape used to make a mold for casting in a foundry. the original model is often slightly oversized to allow for the contraction on cooling.; 8. sewing length of fabric: a length of fabric that is enough to make a garment; 9. arms gunshots on target: marks made by shots from a gun on a target; 10. arms spread of spent projectiles: the dispersal of projectiles such as artillery shells and shrapnel on the ground around a target. 14th century. Via Old French patron “pattern,” also “patron,” from Latin patronus “patron.” The underlying meaning is of a patron commissioning work and providing a model or example to be copied. We copy patterns from a patron? Wow?! Our chart is our patron, our pattern.

Saturn’s day the Full Moon takes place in Cancer. Read the Full Moon report on this site for more information on how to work with the energy of the Full Moon. Mercury talks with the creative energy, the nurturing energy, the relationship energy, the love and desire energy as he stops in the heavens. When a planet stops, we notice. Mercury is highlighting very important sections of the journey ahead of us as he stops in the heavens and simultaneously talks to Neptune, Ceres, Jupiter and Venus. Venus is talking with Mars and Uranus who are traveling together making all kinds of explosions in the world and in your life. Venus softens their energy a bit to make it more palatable. Explosions of brilliance and eureka moments are how we progress. Enjoy them.

Sunday Mercury stations to go retrograde for a few weeks. Expect to redo, revisit, revise, rework, reorganize, recreate and re- all sorts of things. If it has a “re” at the front, it is eligible for you on this Mercury retrograde. Mercury is in his exaltation ~ he LOVES the view from 20,000 feet ~ the patterns are so easy to spot. Go google.map your childhood address. See how the pattern of where you lived gets clearer the higher up you travel? See how when you drive by at street level, you don‘t see the pattern at all? Mercury sticks his nose in the energy of Mars and Uranus. Even more recognition of the patterns and energy of change. Sun trines Saturn to say there is nothing new under the Sun ~ except there is. You get it now. Once you get it, you will never be the same. It changes you. Ceres stations to go retrograde. Review all those lessons you were so carefully taught by your child hood. Take time on during the Mercury retrograde over the next few weeks to write down the rules from your early life that you no longer believe in or want to hold as true. You can revise your patterns. Once you see the pattern, you can change it.
